The start of a 50 lap race at Concordia, KS on 11-11-1953. On the pole in a 1933 Ford, in the #11 is Leon Spain. On the outside of Leon is Norman Mosburg #9, in a 1937 Plymouth.

Accounts of this race passed down through the years. Leons ride broke early in the race, Norman in the #9 led the race with no trouble and in fact lapped everyone in the feild but Swede Bergstrom #5 in a 1932 Ford. With five laps to go there was a caution that stopped the race. Norman's mechanic came out and told him he was leading and the only car he hadn`t lapped was this #5. They both decided he should just be careful and not take any chances by trying to lap this car also. He followed this car to the checkered and the scorers gave the race to #5.
