Super Modifieds, Champ Dirt Cars, and Sprint Cars of the 80's that ran in the Kansas and Oklahoma area.

These pages were started on August 16, 2002

To get the 80's pages started wouldn't have been possible without the photos from J.D.Porter. To help these pages grow I will need you the viewers help. Your contributions will be needed and welcomed. So lets help preserve racing history. This page has been started by the many e-mails and guestbook sigings asking for the 80's.

The 80's brought about changes in the area open wheel racing. The supers of the 70's evolved into the sprint cars we see today. during the early 80's the supers became known as the Championship Dirt Cars. They still continued with the 100" wingless style. During this time period wings were added but continued to be 100" cars. As the late 80's came on the sprint cars finnally took over with there shorter wheelbase and the 100" monsters were on there way out, and the end of an era was gone in the Kansas, Oklahoma area. Sprint cars have been around for years, but the 100" supers/dirt champs had ruled the Kansas/Oklahoma area for 20+ years.

Probably the last racing photo I took. I heard that sigh of thankfulness. I think it was the 1981 Hutchinson Nationals. It was also the last Hutch Nationals I attended. But I've always been a racing fan.
