Bill Norris December 17th 2003 12:33:19 PM
My Dad Tom Norris raced hobo stocks at Lakeside Speedway back in 68 or 69. I was only a year or so old but loved hearing stories of when he raced and/or worked at the track. I am told I spent many of Friday nights at the track in my younger days. Unfortunatly we lost my Dad to cancer back in September of 2001.

My dad was my hero. I miss him dearly and this website brings back so many memories I have from when dad raced. Seeing photos of him and all the people he used to race against is so cool!! Thank you RFTP. You have created a wonderful legacy to all these guys who have already left us.

My late father, Dale Wofford, was the driver in photo numbers 811 and 842. Racing was his life and his passion. He would be honored to know that people all over the world were looking at some of his old racing memories. Thank you, Racingfromthepast.com.

Loved the old pictures from the Missouri tracks.

Rich Francis November 14th 2003 07:56:47 AM Thank you for posting the photo of the late James McElreath. Sadly, many have forgotten or never had the opportunity to see this second generation driver before his untimely death at the age of 23. James recorded 2 USAC wins in 1977, before his fatal accident at Winchester Speedway. James was also the 1976 USAC Midget "Rookie of the Year".
I was only 6 years old in 1977, but I was already a fanatic when came to racing, especially the open-wheeled cars on dirt. The USAC Champ Cars made a stop at the Syracuse, NY mile to run the "Salt City 100", McElreath finished seventh that afternoon. After the race I accompanied my father to the pit area where we milled around. I was truly amazed by the beauty and speed of these cars. As I admired one particular ride, the driver aproached me and gave me his driving gloves...that driver was James. A few weeks later, James was gone. Here it is 26 years later and I still cherish his gift. We can only speculate what his future would of held if it were not for that fateful day at Winchester. The one thing I do know is that he was a giant of a man that took the time to interact with a seven year old fan, an interaction that will never be forgotten for as long as I live. God Bless you James McElreath.

great site ! my dad was a late model driver from the kansas area. he was second in points to i believe to jack petty in 1972. he was also 1975 chase speedway track champion! that same year he was third in points at salthawk speedway and had perfect attendance at both race tracks. my family moved to north carolina in the fall of 1977 and my father and i started building racecars for other people in this area with over 200 victory with various driver. in 1990 my dad started driving again me with me in my own car,dad won 25 races that year me with only 1 . in 1991 he won 23. not bad for an old kansas boy . i have some photos of my dads cars 1970 up till 1977 i'll try and get them to you.i'm still building and driving cars i currently am working for mark martin on the #6 viagra ford

Great site - Seems to be one of the most active racing sites out there, with almost daily postings. I mentioned my #24 car a few days back and have had numerous contacts with information offered already! I'll try to get more Minnesota racers looking.

My dad always took us to the races at 81 Speedway and Hutch. This brings back the memories of the late 60's and 70's. I close my eyes and I can still taste the dirt! Thanks for the great job.......

Was looking for information on #24 Jelly Willhelm NCRA car from the late 70's. I have emailed a few other site viewers who might have information - hope to hear back from them. Looking for photos, programs etc that show the car in action during that time. Paul Martens restored the car originally in 2001. I now own the car and have put some of my own finishing touches on it. It is now on display at the museum in Knoxville for anyone in driving distance who would like to see it. If you happen to have anything on this car, I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Fun Site Warren, I have enjoyed and will be back again.
Thanks, Jerry Sullivan

Do you have any comments? Was wondering if anybody had any of the hard bound books from Tulsa. I have several of Tulsa, Enid and OKC. I am looking for Tulsa books. The years from 1970 thru 1975. I have alot of programs (about 200). I am trying to archive them on disc along with a 8mm movie of the 1965 Tulsa time trails. Good movie just 1965 quality. Please contact me on the books

I have pictures of track and cars. I raced in the 70's in Rogers and Fayetteville. I raced a 68-71 Mustang and a 68 Cougar. Enjoy your website. Should have been at the Hillbilly Nationals. It was great. Thanks Vic
